This section is starting life as a simple list of odd things and happenings we have encountered when deploying apps we feel should be recorded.
ANDROID
Enabling 10″ Display on an Android Tablet
Download ‘spareparts’ from the Android market and install this utility.
Uncheck ‘Compatibility mode’ and reboot device. The app will become full-screen.
Google licensing service
Can cause abnormal load delay but only while app has not been authorized and licensing server query times out. After license confirmed – it’s being cached and load time should be 2-3 sec. Normal load time for our apps is 2-3 seconds. If you’re experiencing load time longer then this interval please try to move First Aid app to your memory card – in certain cases this may help to increase performance. In order to do it your phone needs to run Android 2.2 (Froyo) or higher. Recently we started using Google licensing service that sometime can also cause abnormal delays; unfortunately this is beyond our control.
BLACKBERRY
APN – Access Point Name
Q: I’ve downloaded the first aid app but am unable to use it as a message keeps appearing saying unable to locate APN. Could you please tell me what that means?
A: I learned that an APN is a “Access Point Name“. Here is what our BB developer said a couple of minutes ago… “It seems the customer doesn’t have proper apn settings, i.e. apn host name, username, password etc. I heard about this one. I’ll look for a quick solution.” There is no quick fix.
Carrier specific APN/TCP settings
APN settings need to be setup by the vendor who issued the phone. More information can be found here: http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Carrier_specific_APN/TCP_settings
